The Seattle Urban Farm Company started early in the spring of 2007. It was created find the answer to one simple question: “Does anybody need help setting up an edible garden?”
In the winter of 2006, Colin McCrate moved back to Seattle after spending several years working on small, family-owned organic vegetable farms. Although ready for city life, he didn’t want to stop growing food. He built a greenhouse, started trays of sugar snap peas, and began making trips to the Ballard Farmer’s Market to find an answer to his question.
A few months later, Brad Halm moved to Seattle from a 20-acre farm in central Pennsylvania, and soon after the two began building backyard farms for a small group of adventurous customers.
The Seattle Urban Farm Company has since grown to include services such as:
- Farm and Garden Consultation, Design & Installation
- Farm and Garden Maintenance
- Raised Bed Construction
- Rooftop Garden Consultation, Design & Installation
- Vegetable Plant Sales
- Garden Classes and Workshops
- Chicken Coop Design and Construction
- Goat Pen Design and Construction
In addition to backyard farms for homeowners, Seattle Urban Farm Company also builds rooftop gardens for restaurants, helps schools start up educational gardens, and assists other businesses in setting up on-site farms for their employees and customers.
Seattle Urban Farm Company hopes to continue pioneering new ideas that help home vegetable gardeners and other urban agriculture enthusiasts realize their dreams.
