Seattle Urban Farm Co. Maintenance Services

Vegetable Garden Maintenance

Regular care is crucial to the success of an organically managed garden. Our maintenance program ensures the tasks necessary to keep your garden productive and beautiful year-round are completed in a skilled and timely fashion.

How it works:

Timing: A typical maintenance seasons runs March-November, but larger gardens often require year-round care.

Planning: At the beginning of the season, we will solicit input from you on crop choices to determine how much space should be dedicated to each vegetable and create a season-long planting plan to ensure we make the most of the available space.

Production: We utilize space-efficient crop varieties and succession planting to get the most out of your garden. We grow all of your crops using organic and “beyond organic” techniques, so you can be assured that your produce is delicious, clean, and produced using the most sustainable methods.

Management: Our farmers will be on-site during standard work hours (9AM-5PM). During these visits, we will plant new crops, add organic fertilizers to existing crops, clear debris from harvested crops, manage pest and disease issues and keep up on other essential garden tasks.

Harvest: If produce is ready for harvest during our visit, we will let you know so that you can harvest crops when they are mature and at their peak.

Communication: If we don’t see you during our visit, we will email you with pertinent information on what’s happening in your garden.

Crop Choice: You’ll choose the crops you’d like us to grow from a variety of fruits and vegetables listed in our Annual Crop Checklist.

MAINTENANCE COSTS

Your annual cost includes all labor and materials (trellises, organic fertilizer, organic pest control materials, plants, seeds, etc) to maintain your garden and landscape for the season. Projects such as new garden installations or new perennial plantings could incur extra costs.

With all plans, our experienced crew stops by your garden on a specified day with all the plants, seeds, trellis materials, organic fertilizer, pest control materials and tools needed to maintain your garden. We perform weeding, clearing, succession planting, fertilizing with organic soil amendments, and scouting for and using organic control for garden pests. You and your family are always welcome to join us on our visits if you’re interested in a learning experience from your garden. If we don’t see you on our visit, we email you with pertinent information on what’s ready for harvest, what’s coming soon, and any other happenings in your garden

PLAN OPTIONS

• WEEKLY MAINTENANCE PLAN: Our experienced crew stops by your garden once a week on a specified day to care for you garden.

• BI-WEEKLY MAINTENANCE PLAN: The bi-weekly plan is the same as the weekly plan, except we stop by every other week instead of every week. This is our most popular plan because it keeps your overall maintenance costs lower but allows us enough time in the garden to keep up with the tasks necessary to keep your garden beautiful and productive.
